Best Contest Ever : Bake a Cake for Dolly

I am going to get right to the point here. This contest, our #BakedForDolly contest, is quite simply the best contest. Ever. At least in our humble opinion. It is the ultimate combination of two of our favorite things: Cake and Dolly Parton. And all of you amazing bakers should enter, because there is a chance to win a free trip for two to Dollywood. OMG…DOLLYWOOD!

Here are the deets:

To enter, bake your version of the ultimate cake for Dolly Parton’s birthday. There are no parameters. Be as creative as you like. If I had to give you any guidelines (and there really aren’t any), I would say this : the cake should make you (and all of your friends) scream – “Wow, Dolly Parton will love this cake!”.

Once you have baked and iced your Dolly Parton Cake creation, photograph it and post it to social media with the hashtag #BakedforDolly, tagging both @brooklynbakerand @abramsbooks. Then formally submit your entry by filling out the form here. But hurry, you only have from October 1- October 31 to enter! We can’t wait to start sharing your creations on our social media channels: Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. That’s right we even have a Pinterest board devoted to Dolly’s cakes.

And, yes, we (Renato/myself) already made a version of the ultimate Dolly Birthday Cake to kick things off (don’t worry, we can’t win our own contest, but we are going to Dollywood anyway because…c’mon Dollywood)! This cake appears in our new cookbook, Baked Occasions, to celebrate the queen of country music.

Got it ahead of release date at Matt and Renato’s incredibly entertaining brunch demonstration and conversation at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival yesterday. What a treat. MATT & RENALDO: You guys were so genuine, thoroughly entertaining (while being informative), and totally engaging. I can’t imagine any better candidates for this particular format. You two made the hefty price tag well worth the money. I have already devoured the book, and much like your presentation, your personalities and humor are at the forefront even in print. I am captivated by your journey and your palpable and palatable personal regard for one another. You worked well together on stage, sharing the spotlight admirably, never tripping over one another and clearly respecting each other. You allowed us to glimpse each of you as individuals but were totally successful at presenting as a team. Your personal regard for one another was evident just by the way each of you looked at the other when speaking. And the baked goodies were stars as well. I was the rotund fellow who shook your hands before you moved on to the book signing area – which I could not partake in because I was on an escorted tour that was departing the venue. I am playwright who lives in Orlando. I have written and produced 24 plays and musicals – many of them award winning and critically acclaimed. I am totally intrigued by you two fascinating and talented guys. I would welcome the opportunity…and indeed intend to pursue the opportunity…to get to know you personally with a very sincere interest in writing your story for stage.
